We are adding an additional instructor to our yoga program! Jessie Schreier is one rad gal and we are all pumped to be getting her involved at TwinTown. For now, Jessie is going to be teaching classes on Saturday mornings and Tuesday evenings. She has all sorts of experience teaching different styles of yoga and is great at working with people who are just getting into the yoga world.

To properly introduce Jessie, we put together a couple questions for her to answer so you know what she is all about:

So you’re into both CrossFit and yoga. How long have you been doing them, and what sparked your interest?

I started practicing yoga at home in 2002. I moved to St. Paul in 2006 and began practicing Vinyasa at various studios. In 2009 I took my first Bikram class. 20 minutes in I passed out and face planted on the floor! It was true love! I was a cleaner at the Bikram studio on Lyndale for years and felt called to become an instructor. In 2010 I completed Hot Yoga Teacher Training through Corepower Yoga and have been teaching full time since then. I have studied other schools of yoga including Vinyasa, Yin, Ashtanga, Anusara and Baptiste as well, and am also certified to teach Yoga Sculpt (or yoga with weights) and indoor spinning. I have led 200-hour trainings and have completed over 700 hours of advanced training.

In 2011 I ruptured the disk between my L5/S1. After 6 months of trying every therapy possible, I was still in unbelievable pain and could barely walk. My brother believed that if I strengthened my back, I wouldn’t be in so much pain. I did a WOD with him; I was open to try anything at that point. I became immediately obsessed, but I had to baby step my way into movements and I modified EVERYTHING. After 3 months I could run and do box jumps without pain! I’ve been doing WOD’s regularly ever since.

Currently I live in St. Paul. I’m an oil painter, which is my biggest passion. I don’t eat wheat or dairy, and I love to cook, so I’m always experimenting with different recipes in my kitchen. I’m a plant nerd and love gardening. Tell me about your dog and we’ll be instant friends!

What are three pieces of advice you would give to someone looking to try yoga?

1. Focus on breath FIRST.
2. Don’t assume you can’t do something.
3. LISTEN. Your body is always talking to you.

If you could build a workout that you would be good at, what would it consist of?

I love body weight and gymnastic movements. I’m happiest when I can throw my body around and try to find my balance. I also love traditional lifts with moderate weight at high reps.

Jessie’s workout would look like this:

100 feet cartwheels buy-in (because why not)
-50 foot handstand walk
-40 wall balls 24/20 lbs
-30 deadlifts 150/100 lbs
-20 grasshoppers
-10 power cleans 150/100 lbs
-5 static hold handstand attempts
-10 power cleans 150/100 lbs
-20 grasshoppers
-30 deadlifts 150/100 lbs
-40 wall balls 24/20 lbs
-50 foot handstand walk

What’s your favorite healthy meal?

JUICE. Pineapple, cilantro, cucumber, lemon, spinach.

What’s your favorite cheat meal?

Tequila…..and bacon!

Jessie is going to make a wonderful addition to our team. We hope that you enjoy having her around as much as we are going to!
