My 2019 Murph

I’m scared of Murph this year. I know I’m going to be slower than in years past. I know it’s going to hurt. I don’t want to do it. But I’m going to do it anyway.

This year will be my 8th time doing Murph since I started CrossFit so I know what I’m getting myself into. But unlike every other time I’ve done it, this year I’m not worried about my time. I’m not worried about how my performance stacks up against what I’ve done in the past or other people's performance. I’m honestly not even concerned if I finish it. To me, the reason the entire CrossFit community does Murph every year is way more important than the actual workout.

Murph is one of the very few times a year that everyone comes together and does a workout that 99% would never choose to do if given the option. It’s long, it’s hot, my baby smooth hands always rip, and most unfortunately for me, there’s not a barbell in sight.

What I like most about Murph is how we’re all in it together. It doesn’t matter if you’re wearing a vest, doing C2B (Kudos to those who signed on for that), doing Half-Murph, or doing it unpartitioned. We’re all there to pay our respects to someone who gave up everything so we can have the option to do whatever we want to do.

Sooooo, come in and do it! If you’re up for the whole thing, that’s awesome! If half Murph or quarter Murph is better for you, that’s great too! The goal is to get in and get sweaty with the rest of the community. Make it whatever it needs to be for you!
