What Progress Looks Like
I watched someone get their first muscle-up the other day (congrats, Jack!) and it was freaking awesome. The first one or two didn't go and then BAM, thanks to some pro tips from Coach Andrew, he was on top of the bar!
These moments absolutely make my day, but the truth is that they're rare. It's the little steps forward that we take each time we're in that make big advances possible. Even though they're not as exciting, they're a vital part of the process. These small details could look like:
- Adding just five more pounds to a barbell
- Using a smaller pull-up assistance band
- Jumping onto a higher box
- Getting in for class on a regular basis (!!!)
- Using slightly heavier dumbbells
- Doing one more push-up than you thought you could
- Pushing yourself for that last few seconds in a workout
- Improving a technical detail of a tricky movement
Take pride in being the kind of person who gets to the gym on a regular basis. Acknowledge that adding that one more push-up to your capacity took some real effort! And never forget that putting just a few pounds on your barbell compounds after a while!
Notice and appreciate those small steps forward when you make them! If you need a hand, just get in touch! We’re here to help.
