Keeping it Simple

A question for you...

What movements do you struggle with most? I don't want to brag, but I have a few. To top the list, both cleans and snatches have always been yucky to me. I just can't get them where I want them to be!

However, I've made some strides over the years. While there are a number of factors that have helped, what's made the biggest difference, by far, is taking the weight off the bar and getting in A LOT of reps with minimal challenge.

When the weight is low, we can actually think about what's happening and make adjustments. When it's even moderately heavy it's easy to go into auto pilot mode and continue muscling the bar around instead of relying on the efficiency of strong technique. So not only are we not able to make needed adjustments, but we also continue reinforcing the improper details we want to change! MADNESS!

The next time you struggle with a technical lift, make it easy for a while. Take the weight off and rep it out with just an empty bar! The more we practice quality technique with just a little weight, the easier it is to default to solid reps automatically when there is weight on the bar.

KEEP UP THE HARD WORK. But also, be smart about your efforts. See you in class!
